Speech News

The West Holt Speech Team had a very busy and successful week. We competed at two speech meets: NVC and the Creighton Invite. At NVC the team placed third to Stuart by four points and Elgin Pope John by ten points. We were able to better ourselves for the following meet by placing runner-up at Creighton. Although we lost our winning streak, we were able to see tough competition that will help us for the last two meets.

Let’s begin with the results from the conference meet. The OID team of Carter Gotscchall, Nate Cambras, Sidney Birkenshaw, Mary Hamilton, and Abby Thiele placed fourth. Madysen Kramer was seventh in serious prose. In humorous prose, Teagan Butterfield fifth and Mary Hamilton third. In extemp, Carter Gotschall sixth and Brooklyn Butterfield third. In informative, Aubrei Clouse fifth and Sidney Birkenshaw runner-up. Lily Vogel was fourth in persuasive and Maci Nemetz NVC champ! Violet Schawger was NVC champ in poetry!

Now, onto the results from the Creighton Invite. This meet had varsity and novice combined. The top six made it to “champs” finals, and the next sixth had “next-in” finals.

First are the next-in medalists.  The duet team of Hannah Olson and Teagan Butterfield placed fifth. In humorous, Nate Cambras sixth and Abigail Thiele champion. In entertainment, Drew Martin sixth, Iris Sanchez third, and Hannah Olson champion. In serious prose, David Armstrong fifth, Alyssa Dobias fourth, and Madysen Kramer runner-up. Iris Sanchez was fifth in poetry. In POI, Olivia Nelson runner-up and Aurbei Clouse champion. In informative, Brooklyn Butterfield runner-up and Sidney Birkenshaw champion. Although this week was very busy, we are ready to take on the competition at our upcoming meet. We will travel to Lutheran High for their invite this coming Friday the 24th. We are itching to get the winning streak back on track! Stay tuned for results, and the speech team recital is scheduled for February 27th at 7:00 PM.
