NVC JH Meet
On April 29th, the Huskies were able to compete at home in the Niobrara Conference Meet. The conditions were less than favorable as the wind wreaked havoc on all athletes. All in all on the day, the boys gained 13 medals and 23 PR’s while the girls won 25 medals and 19 PR’s.
With the limited entries for the meet we chose to load up a few athletes and then spread out the entries to the rest of the team. Because of this decision there were some athletes who did not get to compete, but we will load those athletes up in the best way possible on Tuesday at the Stuart meet.
Highlights from the meet start with Konrad sisters as they brought home 6 golds and 2 silvers. Ezra Sholes won 2 golds in the throws and then two silvers in the 4x1 and 4x4. Brody Galyen won the 400, second in the 200 and runner ups in both relays. Berkleigh Dvorak won two golds in the PV and 4x8 and broke the meet record in the PV going 8’ 3’’. The girls 4x1 ran a great time as they continue to get a little better each time out, they ran a 53.05 breaking the NVC record (Makenna Mitchell, Jewel Beckwith, London and Hollynn Konrad). Our girls won the 4x1, 4x4 and 4x8 while the boys were runner up in the 4x1 and 4x4 and eighth in the 4x8. Ansley Cadwallader moved up from sitting 6th to a victory in the 100 hurdles by running 18.72 and a full second PR. Leah Pistulka had two golds in the relays combined with a runner up in the 800. Hunter Wetlauffer continued to lower his times in the hurdles by going 15.56 in the 100s and 28.65 in the 200’s, he had one gold, two silvers and a bronze.
Other highlights from the group that maybe don’t receive the 1st or 2nd place medals but are showing extreme growth would be Mason Troidl in his versatility running a PR in the 100 and filling in for an injured kid in the 4x1 at the last moment. Gabe Monasterio PR’d in the HJ and Shot Put and then stepped in for the boys 4x4 and ran a PR, Gabe also threw over 100 feet in the discus in our competition throw off on Friday, he is continuing to get better and show some grit. Carson Desieve had a couple of better 800s in tough conditions. Jaden Davis PR’d in the mile and the 4x8. Carter Wetlauffer PR’d in the HJ and PV. Ian Cambras continues to figure out track and has a bright future by PRing in the LJ and 200. Allie Oligmueller continues to improve and did that again in the 100. Olivia Rentschler is being very coachable and working some different events and ran her fastest 400 of the season. Maizy Poessnecker PR’d in two events by getting over 6’ 6’’ and improving her time in the 800. Calla Mitchell PRd in two events.
We were really happy with how the kids preformed in a “big” meet setting. Our throwers continue to show progress as we went 7/12 on PRs. The Vaulters medaled all 5 of the kids entered. The hurdlers had some really impressive marks and went 7/12 on PRs. The boys high jumpers all PR’d. We continue to see growth of the kids and look forward to the last few meets. For many of these kids they are continuing to learn and grow and get experience and learning how to push themselves.
Next up for the Huskies will be the Stuart meet on Tuesday May 2nd, Plainview May 9th and then the state meet in Gothenburg the 13th. Gothenburg will cut off entries on Friday May 6th at 10:00, the top 16 relays and 24 individuals will have the opportunity to compete and then possibly some additional qualifiers.
