Carter Gotschall

Carter Gotschall, a senior attending West Holt in Atkinson, has been board selected as an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps National Scholarship winner. He is one of 318 prospective Army ROTC cadets from the nation notified as a first round board choice for a two, three, or four year scholarship. Gotschall was offered a highly competitive four year scholarship based on his academic merit, academic and activity achievements, physical fitness test score, references, and an interview with a Professor of Military Science. Army ROTC is one of the nation's top leadership programs, and contracted ROTC cadets who complete the program successfully will be commissioned from their institution as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard, where they will then serve as an officer on active duty for a minimum of four years. Gotschall has been accepted into the College of Engineering at both the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, both ROTC institutions. As a scholarship recipient, he will receive his choice of full tuition or room and board as well as a book and monthly living stipend while attending his chosen institution. In addition to his plan to major in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Metallurgical Science, he will enroll in Military Science and Leadership courses, participate in ROTC cadre activities such as event security and the Color Guard, and also be required to meet military physical fitness and tactical training requirements. Carter is the son of Scott and Katrina Gotschall of Atkinson, Nebraska.
