Two Championships for West Holt Speech

West, what? West Holt. School spirit this weekend was at a high. Aside from NVC basketball against Summerland, the West Holt Huskies hosted their very own speech meet on Saturday, February 3rd. West Holt’s speech members competed against teams from near and far at the home of the Huskies.
The novice team brought home the championship plaque. In entertainment speaking, Lane Cole was 7th, Chance Bardwell was 6th, and Delani Knust was 2nd. In poetry, Alia Nowlin was 5th. Cale Deseive went 2nd in persuasive. Elizabeth Olson was the extemporaneous champion. In humorous prose, Peyton Olberding placed 2nd. In informative, Taytumn Clouse was 6th, Jacob Panning was 3rd, Emersyn Mlady was 2nd, and Peyton Olberding was champion. Elizabeth Olson placed 1st in POI. In duet acting, Chance Bardwell and Lane Cole placed 5th, Madisyn Hilkemeier and Jacob Panning placed 4th, Daleni Knust and Aila Nowlin placed 2nd, and Emersyn Mlady and Peyton Olberding placed 1st. In duet improv Alyssa Dobias and Peyton Olberding were 2nd and Emersyn Mlady and Elizabeth Olson were champs.
The varsity team also snatched up the championship plaque at the meet. Individually, Lily Vogel placed 2nd in persuasive In poetry, Iris Sanchez was 5th and Abigail Thiele was 3rd. In entertainment, Drew Martin was 6th and Hannah Olson was 5th. For humorous prose, Teagan Butterfield was 5th and Mary Belle Hamilton was champion. In extemporaneous, Carter Gotschall was 6th, Sidney Burkinshaw was 5th, and Brooklynn Butterfield was 3rd. In informative, Madison Kratz was 7th and Sidney Burkinshaw was the champion. The team made up of Mary Belle Hamilton, Abigail Thiele, Sidney Burkinshaw, Nate Cambras, and Carter Gotschall placed 4th in OID. In duet improv, Morgan Mitchell and Iris Sanchez were 5th and Abigail Thiele and Mary Belle Hamilton were 4th.
Thank you to everyone who supported the team this weekend by coming to watch or helping to set up and run the meet! Next Saturday, the team will travel to Burwell to compete. Go big blue!!
