We’re excited to welcome Ms. Kate Maddox to our team this year as our new second grade teacher!
Ms. Maddox joins us most recently from Grand Island, where she lived for the past two years. Before that, she spent five years in Colorado and also lived in Wichita. She brings with her seven years of teaching experience from both Colorado and Grand Island.
Originally from a family of educators, Ms. Maddox has three brothers and fond memories of visiting her grandparents’ land in Long Pine while growing up. She’s thrilled to now be living in the area full time!
Outside the classroom, she enjoys hiking, spending time outdoors, traveling, visiting theme and amusement parks, going to concerts, and relaxing with her two dogs—Lucky Doo, a puppy, and Gus, a three-year-old pup. She also loves puzzles, reading, movies, and quality time with her family.
We’re so happy to have Ms. Maddox join our school community!

She came to work at West Holt mid-year last year, but we never officially welcomed her. We are so excited to have West Holt graduate Alyssa Gonzalez back as an elementary paraprofessional! "Miss Alyssa", as she's known to the students, grew up in Mexico and moved to Nebraska 12 years ago. She returned to Atkinson two years ago, and her favorite hobbies are spending time with her 4-year-old son Henry and family, making handmade press-on nails, visiting the mountains, going out for nature walks, roadtrips, reading self-growth books, and traveling to Mexico to see her family. She graduated from West Holt in 2018 and received her paraprofessional certification at the beginning of 2025. She started working full-time at West Holt in February. This is her first time being a para, and she has enjoyed the opportunity and experience of working with everyone here. Miss Alyssa is looking forward to the new school year!

The high school fall sports coaches have tried to coordinate their conditioning week schedule for siblings/neighbors to be able to share rides regardless of which sport they are in.
Volleyball, football, and cross country will all run from 7:00 to 8:00 am, Monday through Friday. Mr. Havranek has communicated the golf schedule to the girls.
Please remember to not only have your physical completed, but also have the paperwork turned in to Becky in the office.
