To get into the Christmas spirit, the kindergarteners have been engaging in several Christmas STEM activities. STEM activities boost curiosity, foster critical thinking skills, enhances collaboration among students, and creates a connection to real life applications. On Monday students created a new shelf for the Elf on the Shelf using a variety of materials. Tuesday they created the tallest Christmas Tree by stacking 25 decorated plastic cups in a pyramid arrangement. This activity allowed students to test their hand eye coordination, balance, and spatial awareness. Finally on Thursday students had to create a chimney that Santa would fit into and not get stuck in on Christmas Eve. Students found that choosing the right materials for this project was a game changer.

Eighth grade science classes didn't drop eggs to test collision force (messy!), but instead, they created LEGO capsules to protect a mini-fig and are testing simulated supply pods that could be dropped into remote areas following natural disasters.

We’re gearing up for our 2025 Christmas music celebration here at West Holt. The Kindergarten through 6th grade students will perform on Thursday, December 18th. The program will begin promptly at 6:00 with some amazing K-2 performers followed by a mini-musical that the 3rd and 4th graders have been working very hard on. Please note the change in time from the calendar. The 5th and 6th graders, thanks to our wonderful Mrs. Barnes, will finish up the evening with a few instrumental and vocal numbers. We are planning a program of approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. We ask that you attend the entire program in order to avoid any extra movement and chaos while the children perform. Mrs. Barnes and I are trying hard to instill the importance of the performing arts in our students. We understand emergencies arising, but truly appreciate your support for all our students. We will plan on closing the doors shortly before our 6:00 start time and opening them again at the end of the program. The performing students will be sitting with their teachers in the bleachers in order to watch and enjoy their fellow performers. Hope to see you there!
