West Holt Elementary School participated in the 2025 Share the Magic Foundation READBowl, a global reading competition for grades PreK-8th grade. It is designed to inspire students to read and provides teachers with the support to motivate students to increase reading minutes. Share the Magic Foundation was founded by Super Bowl Champion and children’s book author, Malcolm Mitchell. The READBowl began on January 13th and ended Super Bowl Sunday. Preschool-6th Grade read a total of 193,455 minutes averaging to about 904 minutes per student. We had a friendly competition to see which grade level could read the most minutes. In 3rd place, with a grand total of 31,820 minutes was the 4th grade class. In 2nd place, with an amazing 32,843 minutes was the 2nd grade class. Our 1st place champions, reading an impressive 33,456 minutes was the 3rd grade class. A huge congratulations to each and every one of our students for working so hard and making this reading challenge a success! Keep turning those pages and discovering new adventures—because every minute you read makes you smarter, stronger, and more amazing!

Students in English classes read Articles of the Week. The students then write opinion-based responses. This week's article focuses on a school district that allows its students to be a part of choosing foods the school serves. A part of the program is trying different foods one may not usually try. The students got to try edamame, and all agreed that they'd enjoy having a program like this.

The Branding Barn has added a new color shirt for girls state wrestling if you would like to change shirt colors they will allow you to do so.

Junior High students were doing leg lifts to work on their core strength as part of their daily warm up in PE today. This is a small part of the dynamic warmup up they do every day in class.

ADs,
Congratulations on making the GNAC basketball finals. West Holt fans will be on the scorers table side behind the benches. EV and Summerland fans will be on the opposite side of the scorers table. We ask that the West Holt student section stand behind their own teams bench on the far side of the court. (West side of gym). We also ask that Elkhorn Valley and Summerland student section is directly across from them on the far side of the court (west side of the gym). This will free up fans entering the gym and coming and going during the game. FINALS Information Sheet Attached. Please let me know if you have any questions.
